Music Therapy is an evidence-based practice to engage patients and improve brain function through stimulation of neural networks. When a patient engages in music the brain is stimulated to form new connections to regain lost skills and cognitive functions. During treatment, a patient may work on gait training while walking to rhythmic auditory cue, visual spatial neglect training through instrument performance, automatic speech production through the singing of familiar songs, improvement of executive functions through song writing/composition, or behavior modification/adjustment through musical improvisation or lyric analysis. Many patients are motivated by music so use of music therapy as a modality for our patients can be very helpful in improving their function. Our Music Therapy Program is led by a Board Certified Neurologic Music Therapist.
